SAMAS is the acronym for SOCIETA’ ALBESE MECCANICA AUTOVEICOLI SPECIALI The Samas Yeti, produced from 1971 to 1975, is a true miniature off-road vehicle. A tough and pure 4×4 measuring just over three meters, quite rare. The Samas Yeti officially sees the light in 1971 but is nothing more than a revised and corrected version of an all-wheel-drive vehicle made three years earlier by the company Delta Veicoli Speciali and by the same designer of the Ferves Ranger. Even more compact than its predecessor (3.10 meters in length compared to 3.24), but still able to accommodate five occupants, it stands out aesthetically for a more graceful design. The most important technical difference between the 1971 Samas Yeti and the Delta project of 1968 concerns the 903 engine of the Fiat 127 adopted instead of the more obsolete 843 cc of the 850. The small Samas Yeti is capable of reaching a top speed of 100 km/h and achieving 12 km/l of gasoline (3 liters per hour off-road) True off-road: all-wheel drive (engageable on command on the front axle with optional locking) with a lockable rear differential, four-speed gearbox with reducer and power take-off on request, independent four-wheel suspension, a slope that can be overcome at full load of 100%, and a lateral inclination of 80%. Not to be underestimated, moreover, are the four steering wheels: the steering can be engaged via a lever also on the rear wheels with the low gears engaged. A solution that guarantees a minimum turning diameter of only 2.90 meters. A feature that makes it similar to a work vehicle, in addition to its innate capabilities, is the presence of an hour meter instead of the odometer.
