The story
The BMW 340 is considered one of the first post-war developments in automotive construction in Germany. The rare type 340-0 has its origins in Eisenach at the foot of the historic Wartburg in Thuringia. One of the last vehicles has now been painstakingly restored by the Oldtimerrestauration Klinke in Verl. One of only three existing vehicles of this type. This BMW 340, restored by the Oldtimerrestauration Klinke, is from the year 1950 and belongs to the rare Zero series, which at that time still rolled off the production line as BMW and not as EMW. Compared to its successor, it has some changes and peculiarities. The small but decisive differences between the BMW 340-0 and the successor model EMW 340-2 were very important during the restoration, as they allowed for clear identification of the types. Externally, the front and rear fenders provided a visible hint, with the full coverage of the rear wheels being particularly noticeable. The BMW 340-0 could also be recognized by its split and foldable windshield. The Oldtimerrestauration Klinke received the vehicle in a very dilapidated condition. From 2015 to 2020, the vehicle was fully restored in Verl, with interruptions. The small but fine differences between the BMW and the EMW did not make things easier. Extensive research was necessary, and as it turned out, there are only three vehicles of this type worldwide. Fortunately, a BMW/EMW 340 meeting takes place every two years, where important information can be obtained. Thus, it was also learned of a dealer in Eberswalde who still had parts of this post-war car. Additionally, old photos also helped in the restoration; it turned out that as early as 2002, an old BMW 340 was in the workshop of senior Edmund Klinke. Besides the extensive bodywork, the engine also had to be completely overhauled. Subsequently, the BMW 340-0 received its original two-tone paint, indicating that the car was intended for export at the time. According to cautious estimates, there are still about 120 to 150 vehicles of the EMW model. Of the type BMW 340-0, there are only three automobiles left, two restored and one unrestored model. The vehicle can be viewed at any time by prior appointment to ensure that the car is at the appropriate location. The vehicle is sold on behalf of the customer.
