California is the first model in the Ferrari range to adopt a coupé-cabriolet body style, with a metal, detachable and foldable roof. Initially, the prototype was named F149, but the Maranello company later decided to evoke the historic Ferrari 250 GT California, from which the new model takes some stylistic traits. This car also marks a turning point in the history of the prancing horse; in fact, it was conceived and designed to be used as an everyday vehicle; for its versatility and driving comfort, as well as for its characteristic of being a cabriolet coupé, the California is one of the best-selling Ferraris of all time, with over 8000 units registered from 2008 to April 2012. The berlinetta brings with it not only stylistic choices but also technical ones, aimed at making the car quieter and more comfortable even for long journeys or for everyday use. However, this is not a "denaturation" of the brand, thanks to the F1 manettino (Ferrari patent derived from Formula One, aimed at setting different setups and behaviors both electronic and mechanical) the car achieves dynamic capabilities and performance of a true sports car. Among the comforts of the vehicle is a spacious trunk of 340 liters (240 with the roof folded) capable of carrying large luggage, and the car is also equipped with a pass-through compartment. The standard 2+2 configuration offers a cabin with two rear seats, or if requested by the customer, the same seats can be replaced with a luggage bench. In technical terms, there is an F1 sequential gearbox capable of shifting progressively and smoothly, and the rear suspension is designed to provide excellent absorption.
