Features Ferrari transverse mid-mounted rear engine with 8 cylinders at 90°, displacement 2927 cm3 16 valves single injection. Max power/rpm 240 hp (113 kw) at 7000 rpm. Max rpm 7700 rpm. Max torque 260 Nm. Rear-wheel drive with limited-slip differential, with 5-speed manual transmission (+RM). Top speed of 246 km/h with an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.8 seconds. Weight 1393 Kg dry. Front brakes ventilated discs 282 mm. Rear brakes ventilated discs 297 mm. Alloy wheels 15R. Year 1982 Conditions While all manufacturers (including Ferrari for its detuned V8s) relied on turbocharging to increase power and performance (at the cost of higher consumption and more expensive mechanics), for this more mainstream sports car, Ferrari engineers decided to opt for the engine with 4 valves per cylinder. The name “Mondial” celebrates Ferrari's victory in the 1979 F1 drivers' championship, continuing the tradition of the 500 Mondial from the 1950s. The Mondial 8 (named after the number of cylinders) was introduced in 1980 to replace the 308 GT4, from which it inherits the unusual 2+2 seating layout with a mid-engine, but with a 10 cm longer wheelbase to create a bit more space for the rear seats. Unlike the GT4 made by Bertone, the Mondial is the work of Pininfarina, designed by the young Pierangelo Andreani. As in all mid-engine 2+2s, the design proportions are affected by the height of the roof and the forward position of the driver's seat. The rear has a typically Ferrari design, truncated with the classic four circular headlights. The presence of large black plastic bumpers is very evident, reflecting the stylistic trends of the time and making the Mondial ready for the US market, without the need for the bulky additional appendages seen on previous American versions of the Prancing Horse. The interior is entirely covered in Connolly leather and boasts cutting-edge accessories for the time, such as a functioning onboard computer in excellent condition. Perfect engine, perfect transmission, and perfect handling. Black plates, user and maintenance manual. Curiosity In 1984, the Cabriolet version was presented, equipped with a long manually operated hood, which remains today the only 4-seater mid-engine convertible in automotive history. The transformation into a convertible streamlines the lines of the car, eliminating one of the congenital defects of the Mondial design, the excessive height of the roof compared to the waistline of the side. The view from the rear three-quarters with the hood down is truly appreciable.
