The story
MG A 1500 Roadster – 1958 Brand: MG Model: A 1500 Roadster Year: 1958 Chassis: HDL 43/50089 Engine: 15 GB Displacement: 1,488 cc Odometer: km 11,000 since engine restoration Certifications: ASI Historical Relevance Certificate Interior: Black leather Exterior: Glacier Blue Hood: Black Accessories: Chrome 72 spoke wheels, Tonneau cover Extended description This 1958 MG A 1500 Roadster represents one of the most iconic models produced by MG. The car, distinguished by the chassis number HDL 43/50089, still retains the original chassis number and the factory summary plate, elements that are particularly rare and valuable in the field of collecting. Although at the time of its Italian registration – which took place on November 29, 1988, the year of its import from the United States – an official stamping number from the Civil Motorization was applied, the vehicle thus fully maintains its authentic references. Interpretation of chassis prefix H: model MGA D: body Roadster L: color Glacier Blue 4: North America market – left-hand drive 3: cellulose-based paint These codes unequivocally confirm the originality of the model, its construction characteristics, color, and U.S. provenance. History Imported in 1988, the vehicle remained in the hands of the same owner for over twenty years, until October 2010. After a very brief passage of only three months, on January 31, 2011, it passed to the current second actual owner since its arrival in Italy. The latter has kept it with great care and dedication, meticulously documenting with photographs and invoices every body and mechanical intervention carried out in the last fifteen years. The most significant work was a complete engine restoration, which allowed the vehicle to reliably participate in numerous gatherings, particularly those of the MG Car Club Italia, of which the car has been a part since 2011. Recent interventions The most recent interventions include: Complete service with oil and filter replacement New battery New fuel pump Four new Vredestein tires Biennial inspection (technical check) valid until October 2027 Historical certifications The vehicle has obtained: ASI registration certificate in 2005 New ASI Historical Relevance Certificate in 2024 These official certifications confirm the historical and collectible interest of the model and guarantee its compliance with original specifications. Rarity and technical characteristics of the model The MG A 1500 was produced between 1955 and 1959 and is considered a milestone in post-war British motoring. Equipped with a 1,488 cc engine capable of about 72 HP, paired with a four-speed manual transmission, the MGA offered an advanced aerodynamic line for the time and brilliant performance. Roadster versions like this specimen – especially with original Glacier Blue color, left-hand drive, and destination USA market – are now highly sought after, and even rarer when they present with completely consistent and original chassis numbers, configuration, and documentation. Current conditions The car is now in excellent condition, mechanically efficient and ready for immediate use, with no interventions to be expected. An ideal vehicle for both touring use and for participating in gatherings and historical events. The MG A 1500, officially presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1955, marks a radical turning point for MG. With this model, the British manufacturer definitively abandons the traditional styling of the T-series and introduces a modern, sleek, and aerodynamic line, making the MGA a true protagonist of the English sports revival of the post-war period. Engine and fuel supply The MGA 1500 is equipped with the BMC Series B engine, a robust 4-cylinder inline unit with the following characteristics: Displacement: 1,488 cc Power: 68–72 HP at 5.5
