The story
Jaguar XJ 220 only 7,217 km! One of 281 - Year 1993 One of the best Original 7,217 km 25 years in current ownership No. 279 of 281 Shortly after Jaguars privatization, Jaguars chief engineer Jim Randle formed the "Saturday Club", a loosely organized group of company employees who met after work to create a Jaguar on par with the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 959. The basis was the construction of the successful racing car XJR-9, which won the 24h of Le Mans in 1988. The 3.5 V6 from the Group B rally car Austin Metro was fitted with 2 turbochargers and mounted centrally in the vehicle, under a large glass hood. The overall package was a uncompromising, 1470 kg light, 549 hp racing vehicle for the road, which immediately broke the Nordschleife lap record: 7:46 minutes. During test drives, Andy Wallace reached a top speed of 341.6 km/h in 1991 at the Firestone test track in Fort Stockton, Texas, and in later tests in 1992 at the high-speed track in Nardò with modified setup even 349.4 km/h. The Jaguar engineers had achieved their goal and built the fastest production vehicle in the world. With a list price of approx. DM, it was also the most expensive production car in the world. Our vehicle is No. 279 of 281 ever built. The car was originally purchased by an Austrian in 1993. He had parked the Jaguar in a customs warehouse for tax reasons, and never driven it. In 1999, the current owner acquired the vehicle, fulfilling a long-held dream. It is likely to be one of the best-preserved XJ220s in the world. The few kilometers on the odometer were accumulated through regular movement drives, during which the full power was never called upon or the track qualities tested. The original tires are still mounted, whose tread documents the unique handling of this XJ220. In the years 2000, 2003, 2005, and 2018, it received a service each time. All equipment features on the vehicle are functional, which is not a given for an XJ220. The on-board literature and accessories are complete and include, in addition to the operating instructions, the service booklet and the on-board tools, rarities such as the VHS cassette of the Nordschleife record drive. While its competitors from the early 90s (Ferrari F40, Porsche 959, Bugatti EB110) are no longer available for under 1 million, the XJ220 is still relatively affordable and has great appreciation potential.
