AutoEpoque
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about buying and selling classic cars on AutoEpoque.
How does buying a classic car on AutoEpoque work?
AutoEpoque is a marketplace connecting buyers with selected dealers and collectors of classic and vintage cars across Europe. You search by make, model, year or country, review the full listing with photos and description, and contact the seller directly to negotiate, arrange a viewing and complete the purchase.
Is it safe to buy a classic car online?
Yes, with a few precautions. Every listing has an identified seller with a profile and contact details. We recommend checking the car's documents, requesting extra photos or videos, and arranging an in-person viewing or an independent inspection before paying. Never send a deposit without a written sales contract.
Can I view and test the car before buying?
Yes. Cars are sold by real dealers and collectors, so you can arrange a viewing, a test drive and, if you wish, an inspection by an expert or a marque club. For classic cars this is recommended practice before completing a purchase.
Can I buy from another European country? How do customs and registration work?
Yes. Within the European Union there are no customs duties on a car already registered in an EU country. You'll handle export from the country of origin and re-registration in your own country, with the relevant paperwork. Many sellers assist the buyer with the export process.
What are CRS, ASI and FIVA, and why do they matter?
They are historic-vehicle certifications. Italy's CRS (Certificate of Historical Relevance) and ASI attestation, like the international FIVA card, confirm a classic car's authenticity and state of preservation. They grant tax and insurance benefits and increase a car's value and saleability.
What kind of cars can I find on AutoEpoque?
On AutoEpoque you'll find classic, vintage, youngtimer and collector sports cars: from Italian icons like Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lancia and Fiat to great European and American classics. The selection ranges from pre-war cars to modern collectibles, offered by professional sellers across Europe.
What's the difference between a classic, vintage and youngtimer car?
A "classic" or "vintage" car is generally over 20-30 years old and recognised for its collector value. A "youngtimer" is a more recent car (around 20-30 years old) that is becoming collectible. AutoEpoque brings together both categories, along with collector sports cars.
How do I contact the seller of a listing?
Every listing shows the seller's profile with their contact details. You can reach them directly from the car's page for information, extra photos, negotiation or to arrange a viewing. Contact between buyer and seller is direct.
