Designed by Graham Humfrys, this atmospheric prototype was engaged in the World Championship (WSC) in 1991 by the semi-official team Euro Racing. It quickly established itself as the best alternative to the official constructors: Suzuka: 4th overall and 1st atmospheric car behind the Peugeot 905. Monza and Silverstone: Top 5 worldwide, recording times identical to the best constructors. 24 Hours of Le Mans: Qualified in 3rd position in its category before retiring in the 6th hour. Purchased in 2020 through Ascott Collection, the car made a masterful return to the track at the end of its restoration: a podium at the Diecimila Giri del Castellet in 2022, followed by a brilliant victory at Mugello in 2023 against the Porsche 962, Nissan R90, and Jaguar XJR. Having recently received a new engine, this Spice offers an excellent opportunity to join one of the most prestigious groups in historic racing and have a lot of fun behind the wheel. The British manufacturer Spice Engineering has written a true success story during the years of GROUP C and IMSA, managing to market several dozen cars that have risen to the highest level (several World Champion titles) both in Europe and the United States. Ascott Collection is proud to offer for sale a worthy representative of the brand, the SE90C-022, engaged in the World Sports Car Championship in 1991 (Group C category). Designed by Graham Humphrey, the Spice SE90 was intended for the World Sports Car Championship, and more specifically for the 1990 season. Like the previous versions produced by Spice Engineering, the SE90 was offered to customer teams in two versions. The SE90C to comply with the rules of the C1 and C2 categories of the World Sports Car Championship, or the SE90P version, designed for the IMSA championship and the GTP and GTP Light categories. The SE90 is one of the most performing and significant cars of the Spice era, its various versions have won several championships. Chassis 022 is an SE90C version, which began its career... in 1991! Many private teams chose to maintain the solid base of the SE90, while the world of endurance was in full transition. This is the case of the Euro Racing team, which will engage it in the World Sports Car Championship, and specifically at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1991. Running under the Dutch flag (hence the colors of the flag as decoration), the team receives financial support from Japan, with the Osu Wada jeans brand. Euro Racing had in 1991 the status of a "semi-official" team of the Spice brand. In fact, Jeff Hazell, the director of Spice, was involved and present alongside Mike Franklin, the team manager of Euro Racing, and regular drivers Charles Zwolsman and Cor Euser. Proof that this SE90C from the Euro Racing team had a special status, it benefited from the latest developments found by Graham Humfrys, the designer of Spice, to whom all models of the manufacturer from the SE86C are owed. During the first race at Suzuka, the Spice SE90C-022 already stands out. A Peugeot 905 wins the first race organized with the new regulations (which aim to eliminate turbo engines in favor of atmospheric engines). But behind the winning Lion, there are some "turbo" that are found: a Mercedes C11 turbo and a Porsche 962C-K (for Kremer). Fourth, beaten by a tenth for the third step of the podium, the Spice SE90C-022 is the best of the atmospherics, behind the legendary 905. First exploit. The rematch will be taken already in the next round, at Monza. Two XJR-14, the famous Formula 1 cars bodied by Ross Brawn, occupy the top spots, followed by a Mercedes C11... and the Spice SE90C-022! At Silverstone, during the third round of the championship, the mechanics of the Spice work wonders on a selective and fast track. The Ford Cosworth DFR V8 3500 cc once again holds the distance, and Euro Racing's fifth place has a taste of victory. The best lap in the race of the Spice - 1'36''958 - is very close to that signed by the Peugeot 905 of Alliot/Baldi, in 1'36''594. The Spice precedes the French car on the line. Impressive.
