The story

A 1972 Alfa Romeo finished in Alfa Red. Naturally, there are all sorts of things we could say about it. But what about the colour? Sometimes red simply seems destined for a particular model. The lines of this coupé have become so familiar that we almost forget how modern the design must have looked when it was introduced. Slender pillars, plenty of glass and a decidedly sporty presence. This is the kind of Alfa Romeo you fall in love with. The basic design first appeared in 1963 as the successor to the Giulietta Sprint. Alfa Romeo wanted to create a faster and technically more sophisticated coupé without losing any of its playful character. It succeeded remarkably well. The combination of a relatively light body, rear-wheel drive, a five-speed gearbox and the famous four-cylinder Twin Cam engine made the Alfa a favourite among road-driving enthusiasts and racers alike. Then, in 1971, came the 2000 GTV. The 2.0-litre Twin Cam produced around 130 horsepower and, at the time, was the most powerful version of Alfa Romeo's four-cylinder engine in this series. On paper, 130 horsepower may not sound earth-shattering today, but that is a bit like judging a good espresso by the size of the cup. What matters is what is inside. The engine loves to rev, the five-speed manual gearbox invites you to get involved and the steering does exactly what the steering of a classic Alfa should do: remind you why you took the long way round in the first place. This example has been completely restored and rebuilt using original NOS parts. And here, the details are right. The Alfa Red paintwork looks magnificent, the black interior is in exceptionally well-kept condition and the chrome, wheels and paint come together to create a wholly convincing whole. More recently, the car has also been looked after by a German specialist. The result is a 2000 GTV that not only looks magnificent, but also offers exactly the right atmosphere the moment you climb aboard. The characteristic steering wheel, the classic instruments, the black interior and that long bonnet stretching out in front of you. The engine runs beautifully, the manual gearbox is easy to use and, once under way, the car offers a comfortable driving experience with a decidedly sporty character. A beautiful 1972 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV, finished in what may be the best colour for this model, carefully rebuilt with original parts and full of the small details that make a car like this truly special. Alfa Red. Twin Cam. Bertone. Some combinations simply need no improvement. Interested? Contact Gallery Aaldering today and discover this Alfa Romeo Bertone for yourself.
