The story
1930 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 third series Convertible Pininfarina 1930 The Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 third series from 1930 characterized by the chassis number 0412384 is a car that has always remained in Italy and was found at the end of the 1960s in abandoned condition in the open countryside. The engine and chassis numbers correspond with the Gorizia license plate that it still had at the time of discovery. Like many other functioning vehicles, after the end of the war, some were converted into box trucks to perform any task required at the time and this vehicle is part of that, being registered until last year as a truck (it still retains its registration document dated November 7, 1945). The exceptional nature of this vehicle's discovery lies in its originality and the numerous period photographs from when the restoration began. From the photos, it is also evident that it was originally bodied by Pininfarina and it is assumed from our investigations that there are no other surviving 6C Turismo from that year built by the famous Turin coachbuilder. The emblem visible in the discovery photos is indeed different from the usual known “Pininfarina” and does not feature the royal crown, proving that it was bodied in the very first months after the foundation. From the chronological extract, the wording “transformable” that the car possessed is clearly visible, later converted into “box” and transformed into a truck in 1945. The owner at the time who purchased the car to start the restoration sought help from Cavalier Luigi Fusi (author of the famous books on Alfa Romeo as well as curator of the Italian brand registry) on how to proceed for an accurate and faithful restoration of the car which was missing only the rear part due to the conversion into a truck (while all other original parts are present as stated in the ASI report attached in ’75). Numerous letters, all documented, were exchanged to correctly proceed with the restoration that began in the 1970s under the care of the Bonfanti museum (on careful indication from Fusi!), reconstructing the rear part and overhauling the entire mechanics of the vehicle. For reasons unknown to us, perhaps due to the owner's passing, the car remained unfinished until our purchase in 2017. Among the numerous preserved parts that have reached us, we managed to trace the original color of the vehicle (a maroon red typical of Italian cars of those years) which was found in a hidden area under the side steps. Once the color was sampled and the missing body parts reconstructed, the vehicle was completed by Turin Car Restoration in Turin. The countless photos and documents that the car possesses make it stand out as one of the most original in circulation and among the rarest in this “cabrio” configuration present in the world. Numerous pieces of the car have been preserved such as the leather of the original seats, the hoods, the side panels, the aluminum trim on the doors, the springs with the original Alfa numbering, the numbered plates, fenders, flame guards, etc., all visible as further proof of the accuracy of this information. The car has also won numerous awards at the Schwetzingen elegance competition in 2020, finishing in second place as “best of show.”
