Alfa Romeo 6c 2500 Freccia d'Oro 1947 for sale

At the start of the Second World War, Alfa Romeo was busy building the 6C 2500. After the war, in 1946, when the brand resumed production, the 6C 2500 was once again the first model to enter production. In the partially destroyed Portello factory, various models were produced, including the Tourismo, Sport and Super Sport variants. At the time, the chassis was considered one of the best in the world and, despite its age, was even rated more highly by the press and technicians than the chassis of the then-new Ferrari. Between 1947 and 1950, around 2,500 examples of the 6C 2500 were built, of which only 680 are the model you see here: the 6C 2500 Sport Freccia d'Oro, which means "Golden Arrow". This model was capable of competing among the absolute best of its era. The body was no longer bolted to the chassis, but welded to it. This was completely new and was applied for the first time to the Freccia d'Oro by Alfa Romeo. This Freccia d'Oro was assembled at the Carrozzeria Alfa, essentially the precursor to the Alfa Romeo Centro Stile, Alfa's factory. Under the bonnet, the 6C 2500 has a six-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2.5 litres, specifically 2,443 cc, delivering 90 horsepower. This allowed the 6C to reach a top speed of 155 kilometres per hour. Bear in mind that we are talking about a car that is more than 75 years old! It is also the original engine with which the car was delivered, so it has matching numbers. The Freccia d'Oro was so sporty that two units were used in the 1950 Carrera Panamericana, one with Taruffi at the wheel and the other with Bonini and Bonetto. The car you see here has been fully restored with great respect for its originality. This means that everything that was nice enough to be kept original has remained so. The interior is completely original, as is the dashboard, with a fantastic set of working instruments. Behind the wheel, you'll feel as if you've been transported back in time, to when this Alfa Romeo was new. Considering what was possible in terms of production and the machinery used at the time, it is almost incomprehensible how beautiful this interior must have been. The bodywork, of course, is stunning. It is in extraordinary condition without being over-restored. It was done with due respect for its era. It goes without saying that this car is in "excellent condition", but the paint is not too modern, without an appearance that is too thin and an excessive shine. It is evident that the restoration was carried out by professional craftsmen who also have a love for classics. The original Alfa Romeo wheels are, of course, present, as are good tyres that do not look overly modern. There is an interesting fact about this 6C 2500: in 1974, the car was painted black to be used in the film "Mussolini: The Last Act", directed by Carlo Lizzani and starring Rod Steiger, Franco Nero, Henry Fonda and Lisa Gastoni. Much later, the car's bodywork was restored to its original state. This 6C 2500 can be considered truly unique. Rarely does a car like this still have so much originality, such as the interior and the engine with matching numbers. It is a beautifully restored car ready for a magnificent future.
