The story

The Alfa Romeo GTA was a GT sports car, built by Alfa Romeo from 1965 to 1975 in the versions Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA 1600 and Alfa Romeo GTA 1300 Junior as a homologation model for motorsport. 500 units were produced for each version. The acronym GTA, used by the manufacturer throughout history, stands for Gran Turismo Alleggerita. Alleggerita means "lightened". This implies a lightweight construction aimed at achieving success in motorsport. Thanks to the use of aluminum alloys and a spartan interior, it was possible to save about 200 kg compared to the standard version, bringing the curb weight down to 760 kg. The visible body panels were made of Peraluman and were attached to the steel frame with rivets; these rivets are clearly visible, for example, along the edges of the roof behind the gutters in vehicles that have been preserved in their original state.
