The story

This Aston Martin has spent time under the care of a brand specialist. Another Aston Martin was undergoing restoration and they needed a reference car. This fact alone immediately tells you how original this V8 is. The Aston Martin V8 Series 3 was introduced as the next step in the evolution of the DBS V8. The DBS name has disappeared, the front end received a pair of single headlights, and Aston Martin continued to quietly refine what was to be a great, fast, and above all impressive British grand tourer. This was an Aston Martin in which you could leave Paris in the morning and arrive somewhere along the Côte d'Azur that same evening feeling surprisingly relaxed. Although, most likely, you would have found yourself stopping for more than just a coffee along the way. Under the hood lies the legendary 5.3-liter V8. For the Series 3, the previous Bosch injection system gave way to four dual-choke Weber carburetors. They required so much space that Aston Martin had to incorporate a prominent bulge on the hood and an air intake into the design. It’s certainly not subtle, but then again, subtlety is not necessarily the hallmark of a great hand-built Aston Martin equipped with four Webers. This particular example was ordered in 1974 through Garage Mirabeau in Paris, the official Aston Martin importer for France at the time. It remains in an exceptionally original condition to this day. And at this level, it is something rarely encountered with a V8 of this era. Many examples have been restored, modified, or rebuilt at various points in their lives. Not this one. This is also one of the reasons it served as a reference car for another restoration at an Aston Martin specialist. How should a particular trim piece fit? Where exactly does that mounting point belong? What material did the factory use here? "Let’s take a look at this car." This could be a greater compliment than any sparkling concours trophy. A 1974 Aston Martin V8 Series 3, originally delivered in France through Garage Mirabeau and preserved with such extraordinary originality that it was chosen as a benchmark for the restoration of another Aston Martin. Feel free to share the secret: this car is already telling its story. Its originality speaks volumes. Still not convinced? We would be delighted to welcome you to Gallery Aaldering.
