For this ambitious goal, they built a lighter and more aerodynamic variant of the DB4 GT, the DB4 GT Zagato, which participated in Le Mans in 1961 and 1962. The 19 examples built at the time went down in history as some of the most beautiful cars ever made. Many decades later, the two icons celebrated in 2019 the 100th birthday of the Italian design house, with a blend of legendary history and its modern interpretation. As part of the DBZ Centenary collection, the British manufacturer presented two very special models, available only together. Each of the 19 pairs, consisting of DB4 GT Zagato Continuation and DBS GT Zagato, cost 8,000,000 euros gross at the time. The DB4 GT Zagato Continuation combines classic art with modern construction possibilities. Each of the 19 examples was made in 4,500 hours of manual labor by Aston Martin Heritage in Buckinghamshire, mainly according to the original plans and even in collaboration with some of the suppliers of the time. Due to modern emissions regulations, each Continuation was delivered without road approval, perfectly in tune with the original racing car. This led to the advantage that Aston Martin had greater freedom for the driving experience, allowing, among other things, to increase the displacement of the inline six-cylinder engine from 3.7 liters to 4.7 liters, which means that the power is 375 hp. For a more precise driving experience, new telescopic dampers were installed on the rear axle, bucket seats, and a full roll bar. Despite the additional components, the Continuation variant maintains the weight of the original Zagato of just under 1,230 kg. This is also due to the aluminum body that is only 1.2 mm thick, which rests on a lightweight tubular frame. Thanks to the unfiltered character of the vehicle combined with modern safety measures, the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation offers a unique driving experience like no other. On the other side is the DBS GT Zagato, which represents the reinterpretation of the legendary classic. The artwork redesigned by Zagato is based on the powerful Aston Martin DBS Superleggera and produces an incredible 770 hp. This is aided by a 5.2-liter V12 with twin-turbocharging. For its optimal cooling, there are 108 diamond-shaped carbon pieces in the radiator grille, which open and close automatically as needed. New lightweight alloy wheels with a central lock give a powerful appearance. This is emphasized by the characteristic Double-Bubble roof of Zagato, which is made from a single piece of carbon and extends to the trunk lid. At the rear, a wide strip of carbon connects the round taillights, which are equipped with protruding tips. Inside, Aston Martin aims for a combination of classic craftsmanship and modern production techniques. Some dashboard components are 3D printed, while high-quality leather is applied by hand. Instead of a typical rearview mirror, there is a screen that provides an ideal view thanks to a rear-mounted camera. Two specially designed leather bags, which can be secured behind the seats, offer along with the spacious trunk the possibility to stow luggage for longer trips. The elegant combination of elegance, exclusivity, comfort, and unlimited performance makes the Aston Martin DBS GT Zagato the ultimate GT vehicle of modern times. This DB4 GT Zagato Continuation was ordered in 2019 by its first and so far only owner from Aston Martin as part of the pair of the DBZ Centenary Collection. On July 1, 2019, this finalized the unique configuration. After completion on October 30, 2019, the final configuration of the corresponding DBS GT Zagato was approved on March 10, 2020, which was completed almost a year after the DB4. After the first delivery in Switzerland, the authenticity of the pair was confirmed by Aston Martin Vice President Peter Freedman in a personal letter on May 10, 2021. A corresponding appraisal was carried out by an expert a month later, with the vehicle receiving a grade of 1 with only 112 km driven. Since then, the collector's piece has been securely stored and has only been moved for a photoshoot by an expert.
