The story

For sale: Aston Martin AMV8 Volante 1979 British elegance in the open air Introduced in 1978, the Aston Martin AMV8 Volante embodies the golden age of British grand touring. The 1979 model is part of the early series and remains one of the most sought after by collectors today. At that time, Aston Martin aimed to offer a convertible capable of competing with the great American GTs while maintaining a deeply British identity. The result is a car that is both powerful, refined, and comfortable, designed for long journeys as well as elegant outings. An iconic atmospheric V8 The V8 Volante takes the taut and muscular lines of the V8 Coupe, designed by William Towns, while adding a perfectly integrated soft top. The design remains understated, balanced, and timeless, with an immediately recognizable road presence. Under the hood, the Aston Martin AMV8 Volante is powered by the famous 5.3-liter (5340 cm³) V8, entirely designed by Aston Martin. The power is around 300 horsepower, transmitted to the rear wheels via a manual or automatic gearbox. This engine offers a deep and resonant sound, characteristic of Aston Martins of that era, and a generous torque allowing for smooth and elegant driving, true to the Grand Touring spirit. A luxurious and handcrafted interior Like all Aston Martins produced in Newport Pagnell, the V8 Volante benefits from a largely handcrafted production. The cabin is dressed in Connolly leather, with walnut burr wood trim and Smiths instruments, creating a warm and luxurious atmosphere. Each example features slightly different finishes, enhancing the unique character of each car. A limited and sought-after production The production of the Aston Martin V8 Volante Series 1 is estimated at around 240 units, produced between 1978 and 1980, making it a particularly rare version in the classic car market. The Aston Martin V8 Volante perfectly represents the Aston Martin philosophy of that period: controlled power, timeless elegance, and artisanal craftsmanship. It appeals to both enthusiasts of prestige cars and collectors looking for a rare, usable classic convertible rich in history. History of this Aston Martin AM V8 Volante Delivered new to the United States in 1979, this Aston Martin V8 Volante bears chassis number 15005. It is very likely the first V8 Volante delivered on the other side of the Atlantic. Produced among the very first examples, it thus retains its original configuration, prior to the aesthetic and mechanical evolutions that will be introduced later on the versions intended for the American market. We are currently in the process of researching to document its initial history more precisely. However, we trace its history back to 2014 in the Netherlands, where it has received regular and thorough maintenance. In 2016, it changed owners and arrived in France, before being acquired by its last owner in 2017. It is therefore the 5ᵉ Aston Martin V8 Volante produced, a particularly rare and remarkable element. Bodywork The car was repainted navy blue a few years ago. The bodywork is sound and presents very well. It naturally shows some signs of age, with no work required at this time. Upholstery and hood The upholstery was completely redone in the Netherlands in 2014 in an elegant beige shade, still in perfect condition today. The navy blue soft top, as well as the beige mohair hood lining, were also redone at the same time. Engine The mechanics have been regularly maintained by its various owners, with several important works carried out, including: Radiator (2020) Carburetors (2019) Fuel pump (2017) Air conditioning (2016) Cooling system (2015) Gearbox Equipped with an automatic gearbox, this is perfectly maintained. The gear shifts are smooth and efficient. Running gear The running gear has been regularly maintained. No abnormal noises are to be reported and the car drives perfectly straight. Braking The braking system was redone in 2015 and has been regularly maintained since.
