This not only refers to Adrian Newey as the most successful Formula 1 designer of all time and mastermind behind the Valkyrie, but also Aston Martin's ambitions to enter the history books with an overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as McLaren did with the F1 GTR in 1995. This plan was first shared with the public in 2019 in Geneva as the Valkyrie AMR Pro concept. To achieve the goal, the already extreme road version of the Valkyrie was used as the base concept and optimized for racing so much that, apart from the front headlights and the V12 engine, every component of the finished AMR Pro is a proprietary development. For instance, the wheelbase has grown by 38 cm and the maximum downforce has increased to 2,000 kg, while the vehicle weight has decreased to 1,000 kg. The weight savings are mainly due to the absence of the HV hybrid system from the road version, which means that the AMR Pro now delivers "only" 1,015 hp, but boasts a sensational power-to-weight ratio of 0.99 kg per hp. This makes the AMR Pro 0.19 kg per hp better than the road version of the Valkyrie. To preserve the clutch, the vehicle is electrically driven by a 48V battery at startup. The combustion engine is then started by a "bump start" while driving. Due to leadership changes within Aston Martin and the entry into Formula 1, the Le Mans project was paused for a few years, during which only 40 Valkyrie AMR Pro were built for private customers. Following the great popularity of endurance racing in 2023 and 2024, the British manufacturer decided to resume the Le Mans project and announced the deployment of two Valkyrie AMR LMH racing cars starting in 2025 in the WEC and IMSA. The AMR LMH is seen as a manageable evolution of the AMR Pro, which was necessary to meet the regulations of the racing series. At first glance, the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro may seem like just another modified version of a road car for the racetrack and could be categorized alongside vehicles like the Ferrari FXX K or McLaren Senna GTR. However, this is a misconception. It is a pure Le Mans prototype and is only comparable to the Ferrari 499P Modificata, the customer version of the two-time Le Mans winner 499P LMH from Maranello, which, however, has no corresponding road version.
