The story

When Aston Martin launched the Valour to celebrate the brand's 110th anniversary, it did so with the slogan 'Be afraid. Not of what is to come. But of what we might lose.' With this slogan, they encapsulated everything that this car represents. The Valour is consciously old school and analog, designed to be engaging and exhilarating, a car that places experience above pure straight-line performance. Aston Martin has not published anything vulgar like a 0-110 km/h time, because that is not what this is about. You just need to know that it is an old school car, big engine, manual transmission, and more than enough power! The 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 produces 715HP and 752NM of torque, but it is the fact that all this power is paired with a manual transmission that is truly remarkable in today's market of hyper-efficient hybrid powertrains and 8-speed automatics. The torque delivery has also been derestricted, where it is limited in the automatic V12 Vantage, but in this manual configuration, the full, almost flat, torque delivery is available from first gear, leaving the driver to dispense the power as needed. The styling was also openly retro without being cliché, blending design features from the DBS V8 that raced at Le Mans in 1977 and 1979, and in our eyes even more obviously the legendary V8 'X-Pack' and V600 Le Mans. The sleek and taut aggression of the X-Pack is clearly visible in the overall shape of the Valour's carbon body, with the hood bulge and the rear 'flip-tail' remaining distinctive features. In the details, the DNA of the X-Pack is also evident, with the alloy wheel design clearly emulating the Ronal wheels fitted to the late V8 Vantage. The interiors are more contemporary Aston Martin, but all the better for it, showcasing the dramatic leap forward the company has made in build quality and finish in recent years. The trims and details are among the best in class. The production of this genuine 'end of an era' car has been limited to just 110 units, and this example must be one of the most generously and tastefully specified.
