Initially offered in a 4-cylinder version (the 100/4), the AUSTIN-HEALEY roadster quickly transitioned to the 3-liter 6-cylinder for more torque and power; it is the famous Healey 3000 (Big Healey). In 1963, AUSTIN-HEALEY introduced the last evolution of the 3000: the BJ8 MK III which would be produced until 1968. The main improvements that the MK II benefited from are reintroduced, such as the new grille that optimizes cooling and especially the liftable side windows instead of the old, unsightly, and non-functional side-screens. The main evolutions compared to the BJ7 are the standard power-assisted brake and the increase in the size of the SU carburetors which lead to a significant gain in power and torque. The Big Healey thus becomes a convertible and no longer just a simple roadster. The old removable arch hood is advantageously replaced by a more modern, faster, and easier-to-use articulated fixed system. Similarly, the body of the roadster - originally strictly 2-seater - is modified to accommodate 2 small rear seats starting from the MK II. As for the engine, the 3-liter all-cast iron Austin block is a model of elasticity, capable of picking up in 3rd gear at 1500 rpm without batting an eye. Fed by 2 SU carburetors, this big inline 6 does not shy away from revving up with an absolutely fabulous sound. It is certainly one of the most beautiful sounds you will ever hear. However, the considerable weight of the cast iron block must be managed in sporty driving. It is a fast, agile but masculine car: it requires care! Bodywork / Exterior: The model presented here is a January 1967 AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 MK III BJ8 in its Colorado Red color and period "Black" sides. The bodywork was restored a few years ago and received a complete new paint job. The overall condition is excellent, showing a uniform tone and excellent brightness. After a professional polishing performed with an orbit from our workshop, we found a corrected scratch on the left front wing and a small corrected paint chip on the right rear wing. The chrome bumpers are perfectly aligned and in excellent condition. The bumpers are also in good condition, we found slight oxidation on the front bumpers. This specimen has a chrome badge bar and its long headlights. The black imitation leather hood is in excellent condition and shows no signs of fading, wear, or stretching. Its installation is easy and its fit is in accordance with the standards of the time. The micas are translucent, without breaks or cracks. This specimen has a black imitation leather hood cover. This is in perfect condition. The 4 chrome spoke wheels and their 4 knock-offs are in excellent condition. The VREDESTEIN tires show 30% wear both front and rear.
