Sold new in the United States in 1961, this Bentley S2 Countryman was ordered by a prominent American family, for whom a standard Bentley was not enough. From the outset, the car was entrusted by the factory to the workshops of Harold Radford, the favored English coachbuilder of the great fortunes and personalities of the time, to receive specific equipment aimed at improving comfort and everyday use. This configuration particularly includes the split-folding rear seats, characteristic of the Countryman version, and offers a rare modularity on a Bentley of this period. The charming Rotoflare headlight is also part of the optional equipment requested at the order. This transformation is confirmed by a copy of the Bentley factory records, which explicitly mentions a Radford S2 Countryman. In 1961, owning a Bentley was already reserved for an elite. Turning to Radford for customization placed its owner in an even more exclusive circle. The result is a car with a particular configuration, custom-made and now uncommon. Carefully maintained and recently serviced, this Bentley can be used and appreciated as it always has been. Its presence and balance have nothing to envy to modern Bentleys, produced on a much larger scale.
