Very innovative, it was also the first production car to have a fiberglass body. Initially equipped with a 6-cylinder inline engine and a 2-speed automatic transmission, it would quickly receive a small block V8 and a mechanical 3 then 4-speed transmission as an option. Little appreciated for being underperforming, the 6-cylinder would be abandoned as early as 1956. The C1 would be the first of the CORVETTES within a legendary line that has been in production for over 60 years. Body / Exterior: The model presented here is a CHEVROLET Corvette C1 from January 1960 in the period color "Coral Red". After a professional polishing performed with orbitals by our workshop, we found a small defect under the paint on the left front fender and some small cracks on the left rear valance. The black PVC soft top is in excellent condition, perfectly taut and shows no discoloration despite a not perfect fit. The rear window PVC mica is in perfect condition. The chrome bumpers are perfectly aligned. We found some signs of oxidation on the front and rear bumpers and a small dent on the right rear bumper. The chrome ornamental elements and accessories are complete and in good condition. The chrome headlight rings show a patina of use and slight oxidation. The green tinted windshield is also in good condition. The 4 original 15'' steel wheels are in excellent condition, with no signs of dents, deformations, or oxidation. These are equipped with their original stainless steel hubcaps, also in excellent condition. The 4 tires show 30% wear. These are equipped with whitewall sides. This specimen does not have a spare wheel. Among the interesting Body / Exterior equipment and options present on this model, we found: the green tinted windshield and the recent black PVC soft top as well as the 4 whitewall tires. Interior: The interior has maintained its period configuration and appears in excellent presentation condition. The "Red" faux leather upholstery and matching door panels are in good condition. We noticed some alignment defects on the door panels. The driver's sun visor shows no cracks or breaks. We found some scratches on the CORVETTE motif of the passenger glove box. The original instrumentation as well as the clock are fully functional. On the contrary, the dashboard lighting is no longer functional. The original Bakelite steering wheel and gear lever show a patina of use. We found some paint chips on the casing of the steering column. The period WONDERBAR radio is no longer functional but has been kept for aesthetic reasons. The stainless steel door sills are in good condition. The "Red" carpeting is also in excellent condition. Among the interesting interior options and equipment that this specimen is equipped with, we found: the original clock as well as the period WONDERBAR radio. Chassis: The lift confirms a sound body and chassis, with no visible signs of accidents or apparent structural corrosion. The fundamentals: ladder frame, body floor, floors, wing bottoms, and wheel arches are in good condition. Reserve for use: by principle.
