The road version was designed in 1992 and produced in a limited edition in 1996. The car was developed based on the chassis and mechanics of the Sierra RS Cosworth, with the larger Cosworth engine and transmission in the chassis, and was also equipped with the body panels of the Escort. The 2-liter turbo engine was mounted at the front and produced 226 hp in the road version. The Group A rally versions officially had 300 hp, and in some rally events even 400 hp. The engine of the official road version delivered a maximum of 227 hp (167 kW) at 6250 rpm, with a maximum torque of 304 Nm. The car required fuel with a minimum octane number of 95 (Super in Germany). The car reached a top speed of 232 km/h, or 237 km/h without a rear wing, and accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.
