Initially unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in 2015, the Ford GT was conceived as the successor to the 2005 model, which for the first time saw a Ford product compared to the contemporary offerings from Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini. The car presented in 2015 was in many ways much more technologically advanced than its predecessor, featuring an all-carbon fiber body and a centrally mounted 660 hp V6 engine; additionally, a true competition version was also produced in time for the anniversary of Ford's triple victory at Le Mans in 1966, with the entry of the Ford Chip Ganassi Team USA winning in the LMGTE class. For the first time since the late '60s, some lucky customers could actually purchase a street version of a Le Mans winner from the Detroit brand.
