The story
Introduced in early 1970, the third series of the Innocenti Mini Cooper was the last among the Italian Coopers to feature the 998cc engine and the first with drop windows and hidden door hinges. Launch price 1,269,000 lire. In production until January 1972 with just over 15,500 units. The MK3 was produced in two sub-series: initially with drop windows without deflectors (the so-called "vetrone", only 4,586 units until October 1970), then with deflectors. Dashboard with anti-glare covering and two adjustable metal air vents; instrument panel with 5 elements (speedometer, tachometer, oil pressure gauge, fuel level, water temperature); three-spoke perforated steering wheel with Innocenti logo and Hellebore brand. Available exclusively in two-tone paint with a contrasting roof. From an Innocenti study in 1970: 8 out of 10 cars driven by the head of the family, average user age 28 years; decisive factors for purchase were design (37%), performance (34%), and handling (25%).
