This Maserati Indy 2+2 Tipo AM 107/1 produced in March 1972 at the Modena plant in Italy is one of 300 examples made with the 4.9-liter engine out of the 1,102 units produced between 1969 and 1975. This particular example comes standard with a ZF 5-speed manual transmission and is powered by a 4.9-liter 90-degree V8 engine producing 320hp with dual overhead camshafts and a Bosch fuel injection system, where according to the catalog, the car could reach 290 km/h. The car has undergone a complete and thorough restoration, from the bodywork, paint, and interior to the mechanics. It is currently registered with the original period Barcelona license plate with all documentation in order. The Maserati Indy was officially presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1969 and was a tribute to the two consecutive victories of the Maserati 8CTF racing cars in the famous 500-mile race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1939 and 1940. This new model was designed by Virginio Vairo at Vignale and was conceived to fill the gap between the Ghibli and Mexico. The roofline was higher than the Ghibli, providing more headroom for rear passengers. The mechanics were borrowed from the Ghibli and represented Maserati's traditional technology: semi-monocoque structure with front auxiliary frame, independent double-wishbone front suspension, and a rigid rear axle with leaf springs.
