Maserati Indy 4200 1971 for sale

50 years ago, the Italian automaker Maserati presented its Maserati Indy at the Geneva Motor Show in 1969: a four-seater sports car that impressed not only for its speed but also for its size. The Indy was named in honor of Maserati's two victories at the Indianapolis 500, won in 1939 and 1940. The Indy was the last Maserati developed and presented before the factory was acquired by Citroën in 1969. However, by 1974 it was becoming clear that Citroën would not be able to sustain the regular losses of its new acquisition for long. In May 1975, the French automotive group declared bankruptcy for the loss-making luxury brand Maserati. In the summer of 1970, the magazine “auto, motor und sport” tested an Indy 4200. A top speed of 247 km/h was recorded - higher than that of the competing Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 model. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h was completed by the Indy in 8.2 seconds. The magazine then wrote: “Most sports cars are either four-seaters or beautiful. The Indy is both.” In its seven years of life, the Indy was built with a body largely unchanged. During that time, more than 1,100 units left the shed. The Indy was therefore one of the most successful Maserati models.
