The story

Four participations in the Paris-Dakar Extremely rare M117 6.0 l AMG Engine Driven and owned by Clay Regazzoni Built specifically for the Paris-Dakar Probably the last existing specimen Ideal for historic rally events Fully functional It is one of the most extraordinary vehicles ever created by the collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and AMG. The project was born in the late eighties as a no-compromise rally vehicle for the toughest long-distance competitions in the world, primarily the Paris-Dakar Rally. The base was the G model from Mercedes, which was deeply modified in almost every aspect for this use. Only two vehicles of this specification were built in total, of which, according to current knowledge, only one remains. This specimen is closely linked to the name of Clay Regazzoni and is considered a unique testament to early AMG engineering. To create a competitive rally vehicle, AMG spared no effort. A 6-liter V8 engine from the 126 series was used, based on the most powerful Mercedes production engine of the time. The displacement was increased to nearly six liters, achieving a power output of 331 hp and a maximum torque of over 520 Newton meters. For a rally vehicle of this era, these were impressive figures. To optimize weight distribution, the engine was moved as far back as possible. The entire chassis, as well as the transmission and differentials, were reinforced to withstand the enormous stresses of desert use. The body was no longer made of steel, but of a combination of fiberglass, Kevlar, and aluminum. The underbody also received special protection in carbon Kevlar. Aesthetically, the vehicle initially resembled a standard G model, but technically it was a pure competition vehicle. Particularly notable was the enormous fuel tank capacity of about 450 liters, distributed over several safety tanks. This allowed for extremely long stages without refueling and was a decisive advantage in desert rallies.
