The story

Sieger Concours d´Èlégance Stuttgart 1983 Data sheet - Complete restoration by Mechatronik Unique original color combination Only 20 KM driven since restoration 1 of 708 vehicles ever built Complete restoration documentation Condition like new The precise communication designation of the W112 series is "Mercedes-Benz 300 SE". This was available in two sedan variants, as a convertible and as a coupe. Between 1961-1965, approximately 5,102 units of the 300 SE were produced. A particular difference of these vehicles was the execution of the trunk. This was equipped with a chrome-framed lettering and was considered at the time the exclusive detail of the W112 series. All vehicles were equipped with a six-cylinder engine with mechanical manifold injection, which delivered 160 HP. The M189 engine originally comes from the legendary 300 SL and weighed about 40 kg less than its gray cast iron predecessors due to its lightweight alloy engine block and head. This reduction in load on the front axle improved the driving behavior. Technical innovations such as air suspension and power steering ensure ideal driving comfort. The base price for a 300 SE at the time was around 25,000 DM. The long version 300 SE cost around 28,000 DM. Depending on the special equipment, for example with the installation of a central locking system or a heating for the rear compartment, the price could exceed 35,000 DM. The W112 was offered, in addition to the classic sedan, also as a coupe and convertible. However, these variants arrived a year later, in 1962, in Mercedes' offering segment. Unlike the sedans, the coupes do not have the rear fin and were equipped with a lower roofline. This was intended to give the coupes greater elegance and make them appear timeless. This elegant timelessness allowed the two-doors to compete simultaneously with later models. Today the 112s are highly sought after in the classic car market due to their rarity. The convertible remained in production until December 1967, four years less than the W111 convertibles. A total of only 708 W112 convertibles were produced. This W112 was delivered in 1962 in a yellow color combination as a unique piece to the company Kühler Behr and served as a personal vehicle for Mrs. Behr. She first registered it on 31.07.1962. In 1969, it was resold to a private individual from Weinsberg, who owned the car until 1971. In April of the same year, this person sold the car to a businessman in the television and radio equipment sector in Stuttgart. Out of love and passion for his vehicle, he took all necessary measures for its preservation. Thus, he managed, together with the 300 SE, to appear in a local newspaper article, in which he proudly reported that he had never been stranded. In addition, he participated in many classic car events and quickly became a favorite among visitors. His greatest success came in 1983 when the vehicle won first prize at the Stuttgart Concours d´Èlégance. Images from that period are available. After several decades, the classic car enthusiast definitively parted with the beautiful W112 convertible in 2008, selling it to us. A few years later, planning for a thorough restoration of the data sheet began. This started in November 2010 with the signed offer from the subsequent owner. The restoration, completed in April 2011 and costing 290,000 € at the time, received a score of 1 in a subsequent appraisal. Complete restoration documentation is available, including a description and images of each production phase. The well-known collector kept the vehicle perfect for 13 years, never using it, which is why we repurchased it with only 20 KM driven since the complete restoration in 2024. After careful inspection and preparation, this unique W112 300 SE is again for sale.
