The story
Biarritz Sports And Classic Cars (Bscc) is pleased to present this 1972 MG B Costello V8. The MGB Costello V8 was produced between 1969 and 1973 by British tuner Ken Costello. During this period, approximately 225 MGB Costello were built, of which 190 were coupes, making it a rare specimen. Ken Costello designed these conversions to install a 3.5 Costello V8 on the lightweight MGB chassis. It develops 150 horsepower and is paired with a short-throw 4-speed gearbox with overdrive. Following these years of artisanal production, MG would eventually offer its V8 version of the MGB, directly inspired by Costello's. It would be produced in a much larger number of units (around 2600). This specimen is in a traditional color scheme, British Racing Green with Camel interior. It is right-hand drive, like all MGB Costello produced. It is in perfect working condition and ready for the road. This Costello V8 was sold new in Germany, making it the only specimen delivered in this country. It is identified and officially listed in the mgcostello.com registry. It is a MKII, distinguishable by its flat hood instead of the MKI's bulged version. The engine is fed by 1 Weber dual-throat carburetor. The V8 engine comes from the Rover P6, the most powerful of the original V8s, completed by the Costello preparation, which notably includes the intake manifold engraved with the tuner's name. At the time, advertising presented this car as a "Porsche 911 and Jaguar E-type killer." Regarding maintenance and reliability, numerous interventions have been carried out, including the replacement of the radiator, master brake cylinder, filters, along with various mechanical improvements. A large number of invoices and maintenance documents are available, attesting to the care dedicated to this exceptional car. Significantly more desirable than a factory MG V8, this Costello is an emblematic witness to the automotive spirit of the '60s and '70s: boldness, ingenious engineering, racing, passion all in one.
