Only 282 R34 GT-R V-Spec in Midnight Purple II were built out of a total of 11,578 units. Although these vehicles now fetch impressive prices, they have long been underrated and unloved. This means that the number of remaining examples is well below the original production figures. The V-Spec, introduced in 1999 alongside the standard R34 model produced until 2002, received a series of welcome performance enhancements and aesthetic updates. Mechanically, the R34 V-Spec received a stiffer suspension setup, all-wheel drive with an active LSD, and additional air intakes for brake cooling. The aesthetic differences are even more striking: the V-Spec benefits from a carbon fiber Venturi-style rear diffuser and a more aggressive front splitter.
