The story
The extraordinary story of Horacio Pagani and his creation, the Zonda, seems almost unrepeatable today. From the passion and desire of a single man to create a supercar unmatched in terms of performance and design, which led him to emigrate from a rural town in Argentina to Modena, Italy, and to found his namesake company, a brand was born that today represents one of the most recognized and desired brands in the automotive industry worldwide. A relationship was key to the birth of the Zonda: that between Horacio Pagani and his fellow Argentine and five-time world champion Juan Manuel Fangio. Fangio recognized the rare talents and determination of Horacio Pagani and not only wrote letters of recommendation for his young compatriot but also helped him move to Italy and develop his important relationship with Mercedes-Benz. Additionally, he supported the initial development of the Zonda. Unfortunately, Fangio passed away four years before the completion of Pagani's debut work, but his legacy remains, in one of the most desired collectible models in the world. The unprecedented love for detail and the pursuit of perfection led Pagani to take seven years to complete the first Zonda C12: an incredible period, considering the speed at which supercar development progresses and that this project was a purely private initiative of Horacio Pagani and his young family. When the Zonda C12 was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1999, it immediately impressed journalists. But no one could have imagined what the relatively unknown brand Pagani Automobili would become, transforming supercar design into a form of art, without neglecting the engineering determination behind its products. The Zonda evolved from the C12 with its 6.0-liter Mercedes-Benz V12 engine, producing 444 hp, to the flamboyant HP Barchetta with the legendary 7.3-liter V12 engine, prepared by AMG, producing 789 hp, while the dry weight remained always under the remarkable 1,300 kg. Pagani Automobili's ability to produce unique cars, perfectly tailored to the desires of its customers, is unmatched outside of Modena. The Green Diamond, named for its unique paint job, is one of Horacio Pagani's most extraordinary creations. Built in the factory as a "one off" according to the 760 specifications and not as a subsequent restyling, with a specification that is completely unique, making this car one of the most collectible Zondas ever built. The Green Diamond, completed in 2017 and featuring a Carbo-Titan chassis, is equipped with the Mercedes-AMG 7.3-liter V12 engine, which unleashes its maximum power of 760 hp at just over 8,000 rpm. The incredible sound of the AMG V12 engine is unique to the Zonda, thanks also to the beautiful shaped and ceramic-coated exhaust manifolds, which flow into four blue MHG mufflers, before converging into the distinctive Pagani brand, with the four exhaust pipes inside a circle. Another peculiarity of this car is the hood, originally designed for the Zonda 760LM. Additionally, the front wheel arches have been widened. For the paint job of this car, a unique process was used, never employed in this way on any other Pagani. One of the special aspects of the open-top driving experience is the ability to hear the wonderful intake sound of the monstrous V12, which draws air through the intake boxes, connected to the Cinque-style snorkel, just inches from the occupants. With only 800 kilometers driven and one previous owner since delivery, the vehicle offered here is in absolutely new condition. Pagani's unparalleled reputation for love of detail is confirmed by the Green Diamond, as the number of non-standard features in this Zonda is too great to be listed in this catalog. The emergence of a Zonda on the open market is an extremely rare event. The Green Diamond is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful examples ever to come out of the factory and represents one of the most desired Zonda specifications. This is a unique opportunity for any collector to own one of the last Zondas produced.
