The story

In 1964, Pontiac introduced the first GTO – immediately sparking great enthusiasm. John DeLorean was the main person responsible for the development of the GTO. The addition "GTO" stands for "Gran Tourismo Omologato" and means, as already in the Ferrari 250 GTO, that it was the homologation model in the Pontiac racing car series. In 1966, the Pontiac GTO was then produced as a standalone series and offered in three variants: two-door Fastback coupe, two-door coupe, and convertible. The GTO 389 V8 engine produced 360 hp and the convertible completed the quarter mile in 15.5 seconds. The GTO was therefore, in the mid-60s, the king of Muscle Cars and Pontiac sold more vehicles than its competitors of the time. (Excluded from this count are the Pony Cars.) This GTO was delivered on April 15, 1966, to a certain Mister Carnell in Maryland. It was ordered with power steering, power brakes, and in the color Turquoise. The original build sheet for the car is still available.
