For economic reasons, it will take the mechanical bases of the VOLKSWAGEN Beetle and in particular its air-cooled Flat 4 in a rear position. Initially available in coupe and cabriolet versions, the speedster version will make its appearance as early as 1954 for the American market at the request of Max HOFFMAN (PORSCHE importer in the USA). The 356 will be very successful and will be available in 4 versions during its production: pre-A (1948 – 1955), A (1956 – 1959), B (1960 – 1963) and C (1964 – 1965). All will be engaged in competitions both by the PORSCHE factory and by private teams. Its excellent handling and lightness will allow it to win numerous prestigious victories. Thanks to impeccable manufacturing quality and reliability that will soon become legendary, the 356 will achieve immense commercial success, particularly in the United States. Body / Exterior: The model presented here is an authentic 1961 PORSCHE 356 BT5 Cabriolet in its period "Schwarz R701" color. The bodywork of this specimen was restored by a specialist a few years ago. On this occasion, the shell received a complete new paint job. The bumpers are perfectly positioned, without signs of impacts or deformations. The chrome is complete and perfectly positioned, only the alignments of the openings remain improvable. The mohair hood in "Beige" color was replaced during the body restoration. This is in excellent condition, without tears, signs of wear or discoloration. The rear PVC window is perfectly translucent and without tears despite the presence of some micro-scratches. The installation of the hood is easy and its fit is in accordance with the original. The mohair hood cover in "Beige" color is also in excellent condition. The 4 chrome 15'' wheels and their PORSCHE hubcaps are in excellent condition, without signs of impacts, abrasions or deformations despite some small superficial pitting. The set is equipped with 4 KUMHO Power Star 758 tires with less than 40% wear on both axles. This specimen is equipped with its original spare wheel, jack, and tool kit. Interior: The interior has been recently restored to original specifications. The "Hell Braun C" leather/imitation leather upholstery is in excellent condition, without signs of wear, tears or discoloration. We noted the presence of some access marks on the passenger seat. The "Hell Braun C" imitation leather door panels are in excellent condition, without signs of access marks or stretching. The "Hell Braun" color carpets are in excellent condition as well as the "Schwarz" PVC mats. The body color dashboard is in excellent condition, as is its "Light Brown C" imitation leather cover. The entire original VDO instrumentation is fully functional. The oil pressure sensor was replaced in 2015. The entire heating system was replaced new in 2017 and works perfectly (invoice available). The vintage BLAUPUNKT radio is fully functional. The original Bakelite steering wheel has been recently replaced with a new 3-spoke wooden NARDI steering wheel. Chassis: The lift confirms a healthy shell, with no signs of apparent structural corrosion. The fundamentals: chassis, floors, spare wheel well, longitudinal members, sills, and wheel arches are in good condition. Usage reserve:
