The story
For Sale: Porsche 356 C coupe Model History: The last evolution of the first production Porsche, the 356C, produced between 1963 and 1965, embodies the culmination of an iconic model, born in 1948. Recognized for its build quality, exemplary road behavior, and timeless elegance. The 356 quickly won over the public, but also the racetracks. From its beginnings, the Porsche 356 distinguished itself in competition: Mille Miglia, Targa Florio, Le Mans... Its agility, lightness, and reliability made it a formidable rival in the GT classes. The 356C, the last version before the arrival of the 911, benefits from this rich racing experience. It adopts disc brakes on all four wheels, a first for the range. And retains the pure and refined lines that made the model successful. The flat-4 engine, still air-cooled, reaches up to 95 hp in its SC version. Thus offering dynamic performance while remaining usable on a daily basis. In total, 16,678 units of the 356C were produced, divided as follows: – 13,509 coupes, of which 3,747 were made by Karmann (the rest by Reutter, which became Porsche) – 3,169 convertibles, produced solely by Reutter/Porsche The Porsche 356C represents the perfect synthesis of artisanal tradition and technical advancements, marking the end of an era and the birth of a lasting myth. History of this Porsche 356 C: Here is one of the rare Porsche 356C Coupés made by Karmann, and also one of the last units produced. Delivered new to the United States in 1965, it was repatriated to Germany in 1987, before arriving in France in 2002, following a change of ownership. As early as 2003, shortly after its acquisition, its engine was restored, with the installation of Big Bore pistons for improved performance. In 2007, the body underwent a complete restoration, then in 2011, the interior was fully refurbished with beige leather upholstery. Finally, in 2013, it changed hands one last time, continuing its journey as a carefully maintained collector's car. Body: Originally delivered in blue, this Porsche 356C was repainted in the elegant Rubis Red shade in 2007. Today, it presents a beautiful homogeneous patina. Its body is sound, and the undercarriage is in excellent condition, with a slight point of corrosion at the bottom of the door and under the quarter window. The door and hood alignments are correct and regular, ensuring good alignment. It is equipped with headlight grills, a rear luggage rack, as well as chrome Lemmerz wheels, adding a classic and sporty touch to the whole. Upholstery: The interior, fully restored in beige leather, has remained in excellent condition and has been carefully maintained since. The headliner is superb, as are the carpets, which retain an impeccable presentation. It also benefits from sought-after period features, such as headrests, a wooden Nardi steering wheel, and its Blaupunkt "Frankfurt" radio, perfectly integrated into the ensemble. Engine: Its engine was refurbished in 2003 with the installation of Big Bore pistons for improved performance. Then regularly maintained since. Transmission: Its original gearbox works well, the gears shift perfectly. Running gear: The front and rear axles are stable, very good road holding. The chassis behavior is good. No play or noise is reported. The suspension was redone in 2015, Konni shock absorbers were installed. The braking proves perfect and straight.
