The story

Absolute rarity The top engine option of the Soft Window Targa Matching Numbers Matching Colours Fully restored After the launch of the Porsche 911 in 1963, a cabriolet was intended to follow the coupé quickly. However, due to the strict safety regulations in the USA, Porsche's engineers had to get creative. A fixed roll bar clad in stainless steel was the solution. The Porsche 911 Targa was born - the safety cabriolet. Press chief Huschke von Hanstein told the journalists at the time: "The Targa is neither a cabriolet nor a coupé, neither a hardtop nor a saloon, but something completely new." He founded a dynasty and an absolutely unique feature of the Stuttgart marque. Porsche applied for the patent in 1965. The term is still protected as a trademark today, and the Targa is currently built in its 8th generation. The early Targas, however, did not have a glass rear window but a flexible plastic screen that could be opened completely. These vehicles are sought-after rarities today and were built only in small numbers. For the 1969 model year, Porsche developed more modern engines with a Bosch fuel-injection system. The output of the top "S" model rose to 170 hp. Since the fixed glass window had been available since 1968, only very few buyers still chose the soft window at this time. From 1970, Porsche discontinued the folding screens entirely. This makes the 2.0 S Targa with 170 hp the most powerful version of this special body style. Only a handful of these vehicles are known worldwide. Porsche experts assume that fewer than 30 were ever produced, and some sources say only 9. Our car still has its matching-numbers engine and was born in Porsche's house colour "Irish Green". In recent years, the vehicle has been fully and very elaborately restored. A truly rare opportunity! The information provided here consists of non-binding descriptions. It does not constitute warranted characteristics.
