The story

In July 1981, the most radical evolution of the Renault 5 was born. Marcello Gandini maximized the lines of the popular French utility vehicle by excessively widening the hips, necessary to shelter the engine and transmission, which were now located behind the -only- front seats. Thus, the connection between road and competition was born. The Renault 5 Turbo was born. It didn't take long for the new creature from Dieppe to prove its worth in the rally world, winning the Monte Carlo Rally in the same year, and proclaiming itself twice champion of the Tour de Corse, with a certain Jean Ragnotti at the wheel, imposing itself with its spectacular driving against Audi Quattro, Lancia 037, or Porsche 911. The unit we offer today is a Renault 5 Turbo Cévennes, the version that Renault Sport prepared for Group 4 rally, and which takes its name after winning the French event Critérium de Cévennes. Its engine, a 1.4-liter four-cylinder, develops 220hp, thanks to a better air intake due to the original Renault Sport intake manifold (8221), and a turbo adjustment with original specifications. The power is transmitted to the rear axle, which has specific setups for the Cévennes version, via a short-stroke gearbox with a limited-slip differential, and an AP Racing ceramic clutch. Its bodywork is painted in the same colors and decorations as the competition model, and features the most characteristic elements of the 5 Turbo: aluminum roof, doors, and tailgate. Additionally, we find Renault Sport body reinforcements. The wheels, Gotti TB75 -with a spectacular lip on the rear- hide 4-piston AP Racing steel disc brakes. From the same company are the brake proportioning valve and the dual brake pump. Inside, we are welcomed by a competition Motolita steering wheel, and two rigid vintage Stand21 bucket seats, which follow the original decoration of the 5 Turbo, and which have 4-point Sabelt harnesses. The entire cockpit is protected by a 6-point cage and even the co-driver has a Terratrip suit to participate in rallies. Please enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form.
