In July 1981, the most radical evolution of the Renault 5 was born. Marcello Gandini maximized the lines of the popular French utility vehicle through an excessive widening of the hips, necessary to shelter the engine and transmission, which were now located behind the -only- front seats. Thus, the connection between road and competition was born. The Renault 5 Turbo was born. It didn't take long for the new gem from Dieppe to prove its worth in the rally world, winning the Monte-Carlo Rally in the same year, and proclaiming itself twice champion of the Tour de Corse, with a certain Jean Ragnotti at the wheel, imposing itself with its spectacular driving over Audi Quattro, Lancia 037, or Porsche 911. The unit we offer today is a Renault 5 Turbo 2, the evolution of the Renault 5 Turbo. Its engine, a 1.4-liter Cévennes four-cylinder, develops 250hp, thanks to a bearing turbo and an improved camshaft. Additionally, it is equipped with a high-flow fuel pump. All this power deployment is completed with a 4 to 1 exhaust manifold configuration. The power is transmitted to the rear axle via a short-throw gearbox with a limited-slip differential, and an adjustable suspension in height and stiffness keeps it glued to the asphalt. Its bodywork is painted in the same colors and decorations as the model that competed in the 1983 Monte Carlo Rally, and it features the front bumper of the Tour de Corse version with a Rally Super Oscar lighting kit. The wheels, from Speedline Corse, with a spectacular rear lip, hide 4-piston steel disc brakes. From the same brand are the brake balance valve and the dual brake pump. Additionally, it is equipped with a hydraulic handbrake. Inside, the Renault 5 Turbo 1 welcomes us with a competition Iso Delta steering wheel, and two sturdy Mod Plastia bucket seats, on which rest Sabelt 4-point harnesses secured to 6-point Renault Sport roll bars.
