RENAULT then entrusted the Barthaux design team with the project of a small popular sedan with a rear engine and bold modern lines. Innovative, the R8 features large glazed surfaces and 4 disc brakes as standard, a world first! The success of the R8 will allow it to evolve into more powerful versions, up to the famous Gordini. Launched in 1964, it was offered at a very attractive price. Its cornering behavior (rear overhang engine) and performance will quickly make it an icon and a "school" car for many future drivers. Initially offered with a 1108cm3 (77.5hp) engine prepared by Gordini, a 4-speed manual gearbox (type R1134), large diameter headlights, and four rear shock absorbers, it was more commonly referred to as the "1100". The following year marked an important evolution: the Gordini-prepared block was increased to 1255 cm3 (88hp), the gearbox was upgraded to 5 speeds, the front received 4 round headlights, a second 25-liter auxiliary tank, and a 3-spoke sports steering wheel completed this "1300" version (type R1135) which remains today the most sporty and sought after. Recognizable by its "Blue France 418" paint and white stripes (except for the years 1969 and 1970), the 8 Gordini will stand out in numerous championships and a specific cup will even be dedicated to it, allowing amateur drivers to compete in rallies, hill climbs, and then on the circuit. Bodywork / Exterior: The model presented here is a RENAULT 8 Gordini "1300" (type R1135) from July 1967 in its original "Blue France 418" color (matching color). The bodywork was completely restored a few years ago. On this occasion, this specimen received a complete new paint job. This is still in perfect presentation condition today. We found a defect under the paint on the roof and two small dents on the front hood. The side moldings are in excellent condition, with no signs of impacts or oxidation. We found a small dent on the right front wing molding. The chrome bumpers are also in excellent condition, with no dents or dings. We found some discreet signs of rubbing at the corners. The "Black" PVC bumpers show no deformations, cracks, or breaks. The 4 GT 13'' aluminum wheels are in excellent condition, with no dents or deformations or oxidation. The 4 NEXEN tires are new. This specimen comes with its aluminum spare wheel as well as its jack and crank. Among the interesting Bodywork / Exterior options and equipment that this specimen is equipped with, we noted: The 4 GT 13'' aluminum wheels and the internal cover. Interior: The interior has retained its strict period configuration. The "Black" synthetic leather upholstery is in excellent condition. (Invoice available). The dashboard and its visor show no tears, discoloration, or deformation. The entire dashboard instrumentation is fully functional except for the lighting. The door panels matching the upholstery are in perfect condition, with no tears or stretching. The same goes for the "Black" PVC mats. The roof lining is in excellent condition and perfectly taut. The padded 3-spoke QUILLERY steering wheel as well as the Bakelite gear knob show a patina of use. This specimen is equipped with a battery switch and a fire extinguisher.
