The story
Superb line, carbon chassis, Mopar 6-liter engine, sequential gearbox Engaged in the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2000 and testing of the 24 Hours of Daytona Eligible for Dubai GP Revival, Daytona Classic, Sebring Classic, Endurance Icons, Masters Endurance Legends, Endurance Racing Legends and Le Mans Classic Legend Adrian Reynard was an accomplished driver in the mid-1970s when he founded Sabre Automotive Ltd which later became Reynard Motorsport. The company developed and marketed cars in many series and by winning championships, it allowed the small English brand to build an excellent reputation. An attempt in Formula 1 in the early 1990s ended in failure. Reynard Motorsport was also involved in development programs for several leading manufacturers with the Panoz Esperante and the high-performance Viper GTS-R on behalf of Chrysler. By the end of the 1990s, Reynard Motorsport was thinking big and acquired Riley & Scott and Gemini Transmission in quick succession. At that time the Riley & Scott Mk3 dominated in Endurance many times against the very sharp Ferrari 333SP. It was therefore necessary to pay a high price to acquire this gem. It was at this time that the construction of a Sportscar began. The first Reynard 2KQ would be assembled in 1999. In 2002, after a failed IPO on the New York Stock Exchange, and an insurmountable debt, the company was put into liquidation. REYNARD 2KQ: Carbon chassis, kevlar/carbon body - Sequential gearbox The Reynard 2KQ was developed with the aim of offering private teams a competitive car in Endurance. At that time, Reynard Motorsport was at its peak. But the early days of the Reynard 2KQ were somewhat laborious. Nigel Stroud, called to the rescue, would make modifications to the car that would prove conclusive from the start of the 2000 season, particularly the modification of the front end. The best technology of the time was used for the construction of the 2KQ, namely a carbon shell providing rigidity, lightness, and safety as well as a kevlar carbon body. The design of the car is among the most advanced with a sequential gearbox in a longitudinal position, namely a home-made gearbox, the Reynard / Gemini 6-speed. The engine compartment allows for different engines. As was often the case, Reynard and Lola offered cars in open architecture that could receive, at the customer's choice, different power units. A very wide variety of engines would thus be used in the long career of some chassis. JUDD V10 GV4 4 liters, MOPAR V8 of 6 liters, VW Lehmann HPT/ROC L4 Turbo 2 liters, Nicholson- Cosworth 4 liters, and even the JUDD 5 liters when chassis 2KQ 006 became the Nasamax DM139 LMP1 of the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2004, running on green ethanol fuel. Reynard achieved great success with the 2KQ model. No less than 9 chassis were sold in the United States and Europe. At the beginning of 2000, Reynard Motorsport and LOLA shared the market for private teams. By way of comparison, LOLA which managed to market 7 running chassis of the B98/10 in 1999, would sell only 6 models of 2000, the B2K/10. Very reputable teams chose the Reynard 2KQ chassis. Oreca would order two chassis to launch into the Le Mans 2000 - 2002 program in LMP900 aimed at winning the race Mancelle. Obviously, the engine was supplied by Chrysler. It was the 6 liters revised by John Caldwell to meet the demands of endurance racing while Chrysler's parts / competition division offered it in its catalog to power ... dragsters... Its power was therefore reduced from 1800 horsepower to 600 horsepower at 6500 rpm. The truck torque of 620N/m should do the job. It is this engine that equips chassis 002 offered for sale. ROC AUTO led by Fred Sadler, true to its tradition, would opt for a low displacement, namely a VW 4-cylinder turbo engine developed by Lehmann to race in LMP675. REYNARD 2KQ 002: 12 Hours of Sebring and tests of the 24 hours of Daytona with George Robinson and Jack Baldwin The chassis 2KQ 002 offered for sale was acquired by the Team Robinson Racing which, nowadays continues to enter prototypes in endurance races in the USA. George Robinson is an experienced driver who has won numerous victories in Trans Am and 3 category wins at the 12 Hours of Sebring. George Robinson shared the wheel with Jack Baldwin. He is a famous driver in the USA, having accumulated victories in all the series he has participated in, as well as victories on all the major circuits in the United States during his career which spanned four decades.
