In October 1961, TRIUMPH introduced the TR4, which offered the same technical base as its predecessor: a solid "scale" separate chassis, a 2-liter engine derived from the large series, all with a decidedly more modern line designed by MICHELOTTI. The most significant point of progress regarding the TR4 is undoubtedly comfort. The rack and pinion steering makes driving much smoother and more enjoyable compared to its predecessor, the wild TR3 and its box steering, to say nothing of its masculinity. A second excellent evolution will be the arrival of the TR4 A IRS in 1965, "IRS" for "Independent Rear Suspension". This profound modification of the TR4 chassis is much more than a technical detail and transforms its road behavior: with 4 independent wheels, goodbye to bumps and the harshness of the little progressive suspensions. While not yet classified as comfortable, the TR4 A IRS becomes pleasant even on long journeys, and above all more efficient. Body / Exterior: The model presented here is a TR4 A IRS from July 1965 in its original color "Signal Red 32" (matching color) The body is in excellent presentation condition. It was restored in 2020 (invoice: €8,500). On this occasion, the body was completely disassembled to receive a new complete paint job photographic dossier available: disassembly reassembly, engine gearbox, seats dashboard, windows, doors, trunk, hood, bumpers, handles and locks, complete sanding of the shell, primer application and complete painting in its original color "Signal Red 32" (matching color). After a professional polishing performed with orbitals from our workshop, we noticed the presence of a small dent on the hood. The bumpers and their chrome supports are perfectly aligned. The rear bumper and supports show some light signs of oxidation. The "Black" vinyl soft top is in good presentation condition. Its installation is easy and its fit is in accordance with the model standards. The rear windows are free of breaks or cracks and show good transparency. This specimen is equipped with the soft top cover and trunk cover option. The latter are in excellent condition. The 4 painted 14'' wire wheels and their chrome knock-offs are in excellent condition. The 4 tires show 5% wear both front and rear. This specimen has retained the original spare wheel as well as the jack and hammer. Among the interesting body / exterior equipment and options that this specimen is equipped with, we noted: the "Black" vinyl soft top cover and "White" piping and the trunk cover as well as the chrome "Obus" type mirrors. Cabin: The interior is in excellent presentation condition.
