For the Führer, the goal was also to compete with the industrial powers that were America and the United Kingdom at the time, while developing propaganda that exalted the progress and comfort that the Third Reich could bring to the German people and the world. In a short time, PORSCHE presented a prototype based on a beam chassis, with 4 independent wheels and torsion bars, as well as a 4-cylinder flat air-cooled engine. If World War II would confirm the success of the Beetle and its military derivatives, the American market and the 30 glorious years that followed would make it a planetary success still unmatched today, as more than 21.5 million units would be delivered. Offered in sedan and convertible on the same chassis, the Beetle would never change its mechanical philosophy. Only the displacement of its air-cooled flat 4 would increase over the years and versions, from 985 cm3 to 1,584cm3 and from 23 to 50hp.
