The story
Sometimes a car passes by that immediately brings a smile to your face. This stunning 1968 Volkswagen Type 3 Variant 1600 LE is one of those cars. Finished in the refined Savannah Beige, equipped with an original steel sunroof and an impressive list of upgrades and restoration work, it is a classic Volkswagen ready for many worry-free miles. What strikes you immediately is the stunning appearance. The original factory sunroof works perfectly and was completely overhauled in 2018 with high-quality components from ISP West. Together with the full-length roof rack, the louvres on the rear window, the export bumpers with a nice patina, and the opening rear windows, it gives the car a unique and authentic look. The interior has also been meticulously cared for. In 2018, a new complete interior was installed, and all seals and trims have been renewed. Additionally, details like the bamboo shelf under the dashboard, the original ISP West speedometer, and the extra gauges for oil pressure and oil temperature create a cozy and functional cockpit. From a technical standpoint, this Variant is more than just a pretty face. The engine has been completely overhauled and upgraded in 2024/2025 to 1835 cc, equipped with among other things a W100 camshaft, 1:1.25 rockers, modified ventilation, dual Weber 34 ICT carburetors, and a CSP Python Type 3 RVS 4-in-1 exhaust system. The result is a reliable and powerful engine with about 90 hp and, above all, impressive torque at low revs. It’s not a race car, but a great cruiser with enough pulling power in all conditions. The completely overhauled 2021 Freeway Flyer transmission also makes longer trips particularly comfortable. The car was repainted some time ago. The paint looks good, but there is room for improvement for the perfectionist. A particularly fun, distinctive, and technically strong Volkswagen Variant that stands out from the crowd. Ideal for air-cooled Volkswagen enthusiasts looking for a unique combination of originality, charm, and driving pleasure. Get in, open the sunroof, and enjoy.
